Louise Nell McGee Age: 71 of Portales, NM
Passed away on April 1, 2018 , in her home with her family at her bedside.
She was born on September 9, 1946, in Lubbock, TX to the home of Gilberet Westerman and Birdie LaNell Miller Westerman.
In the early 50’s At the age of 5 Louise was diagnosed with Polio, her family was told she would never walk again during this time she was also treated for what was called Iron lung caused by the Polio. Louise’s stubbornness would prove the doctors wrong and she walked out of the hospital on her own. Her bout with Polio however left her with a severe limp, but she did not let that keep her down. Moving to California in the Mid 60’s to live and later living in Shoshonie WY. and Battle Mt. NV. before returning to Portales. Louise loved camping, hunting and fishing. She taught all of her older grandsons to fish at Boysen Reservoir outside of Shoshoni WY., she taught grandson Dillion how to shoot and helped him get his hunters education. Louise liked crafts, she could look at something and go home and remake it without a pattern. Louise worked as a bartender at the Wagon Wheel Bar and as a clerk for both Allsup’s and Fast Lane Convenience Stores. Louise was also the owner and operator of the Sunshine Hut on Main Street is Shoshoni WY. Louise left Shoshoni and moved to Portales to care for her ailing mother, After her mother passed she moved to Battle Mt. NV and lived with her daughter Mary. Louise cared for Mary after a severe motorcycle accident that left her in ICU, upon her recovery, Mary moved to Portales. Louise soon thereafter became ill and moved back to Portales to live with Mary. Her grandson Nathan also helped to care for Louise in her last years of her life. Louise will be missed by everyone that knew her.
Louise’s wishes were to be cremated and not to have any formal funeral services and her daughters are fulfilling those wishes. Louise is survived by:Ex Husband Cloise Luther Porter Jr. whom she married in 1962. Brother: Billy-Mac Westerman and wife Lynn, of Wingate TX.
Daughters: Mary Jurad-Stinnett and husband James of Portales N.M.,Cindy Porter and husband James Wallace of Layton UT. Grandsons: Nathan Weber of Portales N.M, Darren Weber and wife Kristy of Battle Mt. NV, Dillion Wall and Joseph Wall of Layton UT.
Granddaughter Savannah Wallace of Layton UT. Great Grandsons: Elijah Weber, Kayden Wall, Brawley Weber, Taven Wall, Great Granddaughter: Brenna Weber.
Louise was Proceeded in Death by: Brother: Leonard Westerman Father: Gilbert Westerman,
Mother: Birdie LaNell Miller, Ex Husband Buck McGee whom she married in 1970.
