The Rosary for Juliana Burciaga, 81, of Portales, will be recited at 9:00 AM, Wed., Feb. 21, 2018 at St. Helen Catholic Church, followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 AM with Fr. Charles Ugochuckwu officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Johnny J. Olivas, Bobby L. Olivas, George Contreras, David Olivas, Artemio Mireles and Placido Zapata, Jr. serving as pallbearers.


Juliana Burciaga was born Mar. 4, 1936 in Barancos, Chihuahua, Mexico to the home of Maria (Rodriguez) and Juan T. Olivas, and died early Sunday morning, Feb. 18, 2018 in Portales, NM. In 1968 in Saragosa, TX she was married to Agapito Burciaga. They moved wherever they could find work for several years. During that time they worked in California, Arizona and New Mexico and Texas. In 1968 they settled in Portales. Juliana worked at the Selected Casings Plant, and Borden Peanut Mill in Portales and the Levi Strauss Plant in Clovis. She raised pigs and goats to sell, and also made Asadero cheese that she sold.
She is survived by five brothers, Jesus Olivas of Roswell, Lazaro Olivas of Dexter, NM, Guillermo Olivas of Ft. Stockton, TX, Timoteo Olivas of Ft. Stockton, TX, and Manuel olivas of Van Horn, TX; six sisters, Antonia Hernandez of Saragosa, TX, Teodora Contreras of Saragosa, TX, Ramona Mireles of Crane, TX, Esiquia Olivas of Clovis, Longina Zapata of Morton, TX and Lucy Olivas of Crane, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Rosinda Olivas, Francisco Olivas and Julian Olivas, and infant daughter, Idolina Burciaga and by her husband, Agapito who died in Jan. 1996.
