Funeral services for Vivian Haverland will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Don Thomas officiating and Leroy Thomas assisting. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with John Bridges, John Bartl, Ricky Haverland, Devin Hanson, Pablo Rodriguez and Daniel Alexander serving as pallbearers and all former employees as honorary pallbearers.


Vivian Haverland was born on September 14, 1944 in Clovis, New Mexico to the home of Ila Lucretia (Blair) and Kenneth Lionel Dodson, and died on February 22, 2019 in Lubbock. She grew up in Clovis and married Richard Allen Haverland on October 3, 1970. They moved to Portales in 1972 and she stayed at home raising their children until 1977 they bought Portales Drug. She and Richard owned and operated Portales Drug for more than eleven years when in 1989 they bought CJ’s Pill Box and merged the two pharmacies. Vivian worked there as a Certified Pharmacy Technician until 2008 when she and Richard decided to sell their business and retire. 

They loved to travel the world and visited many places while they owned the pharmacy and after they retired, they bought a motor home and began travelling many other places. Vivian loved Jesus and loved her church. She loved to take care of the children and the babies that she kept in the church’s nursery. She loved making ceramics and also tole painting. She especially loved her family and loved to visit with her kids and grandkids.

Vivian is survived by her husband Richard Haverland of Portales; her children, Sandy Turner and husband Steve of Albuquerque, Richard Allen Haverland, Jr. and wife Lynn of Rio Rancho, Timothy John Haverland of Phoenix, AZ, Tammy Annette Hunton and Husband David of Portales and Kenneth Allen Haverland and wife Amy of Brier, WA; fifteen grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Florence Wilson and Gwen Upton.
