Funeral services for Stanley Harrison, 68, of Lubbock, TX will be at 1:00 P.M., Wed., May 23, 2018 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in the Eiland Cemetery near Arch, NM.
Stanley Ben Harrison was born Aug. 29, 1949, in Lubbock, TX to the home of Eva Mae (Grizzle) and Gordon Stanley Harrison and died May 16, 2018 in Lubbock, TX where he had been living for the past three years. Stan grew up in the Arch community, and graduated from Portales High School in 1967. While he was still in high school, he earned his private pilot’s license. After graduating, he went on to attend Eastern New Mexico University and New Mexico State University for a short time before enlisting in the U S Army in Sept. 1969. During a portion of his time of service, he was stationed in Germany. After his discharge in Jan. of 1971, he and his friend, Dargan Wall formed a partnership to do crop dusting. In the early 80’s, he began a charter flight service and provided transportation for Lonnie Allsup and Jeff Wilson. He also flew for UPS before becoming an airline pilot for Continental Airlines in the mid 1980’s. After nearly 20 years with the company, he retired in 2006. Following his retirement, Stan took care of his mother for several years. For the past three years he had been a resident of Raider Ranch in Lubbock.


He is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Joel Harrison of Carrollton, TX, John and Carol Harrison of Midland, TX, Jordan and Hannah Harrison of Alto, NM and James Harrison of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren, Kensey and Hailey Harrison; a “sister” and “brother-in-law” Loya and Michel Cobb of Lubbock; and his former wife, Melanie Harrison of Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, and a son, Jared Harrison who died in 1999.
