A rosary for Rosalia “Chalia” Sanchez, 95, of Portales will be recited at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at St. Helen Catholic Church and the Mass of the Resurrection will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales, NM with Father Francisco Carbajal officiating.

Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Isidro Sanchez, Jr., Victor Lucero, Alonzo Cordona, Javier Sanchez, Fernando Jimenez, Edgar Jimenez, Eduardo Jimenez, Jr. and Daniel Sanchez serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be all of the grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. 

Rosalia “Chalia” Sanchez passed away on February 25, 2019 in Albuquerque, NM. Rosalia was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on August 1, 1923 to the home of Serapita (Navarrete) and Nieves Cervantes. Rosalia studied to be a teacher and taught fourth grade students. On December 5, 1948 she married the love of her life Acension “Chon” Sanchez. The two of them were married for 53 years prior to his passing on August 12, 2001. Rosalia was a woman of faith and a member of St. Helen Catholic Church. You could often find her with her beloved sisters offering prayers for family and friends.

Rosalia is survived by two sons, Isidro Sanchez, Sr. and wife Rita and Humberto Sanchez and wife Yolanda; two daughters, Maria “Micha” Cardona and husband Wences and Rosa Lucero and husband Andy; son-in-law, Lalo Jimenez; two sisters, Otilia Hinojos and Velia Ramirez.
She is preceded in death by her parents Nieves and Serapita Cervantes, her husband, Acension “Chon” Sanchez, two daughters, Xochitl and Christine Jimenez, two brothers, Ediberto Cervantes and Florencio Cervantes and two sisters, Lilia Tarango and Gloria Cervantes.
