Informal graveside committal services for Randell “Randy” Obenhaus, 64, of Portales, will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, Sept. 14, 2018 in the Portales Cemetery. Those desiring to make memorial contributions may send them to their favorite charity or church organization.
Randell Wayne Obenhaus was born Oct. 6, 1953 to the home of Jean (Carlisle) and Wendell Obenhaus, and died Sept 7, 2018 at his home in Portales. Randy, as he was known to many, was a 1971 graduate of Portales High School. He went on to study at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, and completed a degree in Industrial Engineering in 1976. He began working in his career field for General Dynamics. Later, Randy worked at various construction jobs until he was inured several years ago. Since then he had been unable to work due to his injuries.
Randy was a gifted gymnast. He and his brothers and sister often walked their hands throughout the house and down the stairs trying to see who could last the longest. One classmate said that he could walk on his hands as far as his friend could walk on his feet. His love of gymnastics and music endured throughout his life. He often posted music videos on his Facebook page.
He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Lisa Obenhaus of Portales; a sister and brother-in-law, Rhonda and Larry Luce of Mebane, NC; four nephews, Bryan Luce, and Jordan, Keatan and Micah Obenhaus and a niece, Delaina Luce. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rodney who died in 1968.
