The Rosary for Pedro “Pete” Dominguez, 91, of Portales will be recited at 7:00 PM, Tues, Sept. 4, 2018 at the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wed., Sept. 5, 2018 in the Twin Oaks Cemetery in Artesia, NM with Fr. B. J. Roju officiating. Benjamin Aguilar II, Tony Duran, Danny Duran, Kristian Zamora, Crystal Chacon and Veronica Olguin will serve as pallbearers.

Pedro M. Dominguez, known to many as Pete, was born Aug. 1, 1927 in Greenfield, TX to the home of Julia (Mendoza) and Seferino Dominguez, and died Aug. 30, 2018 in Clovis, NM. Pete was raised in Dexter, NM. His first job was on a farm in Otis, NM near Carlsbad. In 1945 Pete joined the US Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, VA. Following the war, he came back to New Mexico and was working on a farm near Artesia when he met his future wife, Estella Hernandez. Their first date was to attend a dance in Artesia. On Feb. 14, 1947 in Artesia, they were married. In 1955, they moved to Portales, and Pete went to work for Cooper Hobbs Chevrolet as a body repairman. After working there for ten years he opened his own body shop. Later he drove the wrecker for the local Ford dealership. Then in 1987, Pete went to work for the New Mexico State Highway Dept. where he eventually became a supervisor. Pete retired in 1997 to care for his wife until her death later that same year. After Stella’s death, he operated a small body shop at his home, and took care of his grandchildren. He had made his home in Clovis since 2014. Pete was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church.

He is survived by one sister, Alyce Delgado of Roswell, NM and two children, Gloria Aguilar (Pat Baker) and Enrique “Kiki” Dominguez; four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and a step-daughter, Patty Cervantez. He was preceded in death by his parents a daughter Ina Tovar, a grandson, and by his beloved wife, Stella who died Nov. 15, 1997 after more than 50 years of marriage.
