Norma Lou O’Neal Hollis, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Croatan Village, a loving and caring community in New Bern, North Carolina. She was born to Ruth and John O’Neal in Plains, Texas, and was one of six children.
Norma graduated from Plains, Texas High School and attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Warren (Bud) Newell Hollis. Three children were added to their union,Daniel, Noel and Nora. The family lived and traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States before settling in Roswell, New Mexico. Norma enjoyed playing the piano,
flying small airplanes, genealogy research, and being a grandparent. She volunteered at the First Baptist Church, Vocational Rehabilitation, Welcome Wagon and the Library in Roswell.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, and oldest son. She is survived by her son, Noel Hollis, daughter and son in law, Nora and Dave Peoples, her grandson, Marshall Peoples and many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as a caring and devoted wife, mother,and grandmother. We thank her for all she has gifted us in her long and loving life.
Private graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, August 20, 2018, at the Portales Cemetery, Portales, New Mexico. Memorials can be made in Norma’s name to the National Alzheimer’s Association at:
