The Rosary for Miguel (Mike) Severiano Lucero, 83, of Portales, will be recited at 7:00 PM, Wed., Jan. 23, 2019 at Wheeler Mortuary. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Thurs., Jan. 24, 2019 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Pete Jaramillo officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Michael Salaz, Edmund Gomez, Joseph Lucero, Vincent Ulibarri, Antonio Salaz and Patrick Johnson serving as pallbearers.

Miguel Lucero was born on Feb. 19, 1935 in Chaperito, New Mexico to the home of Juanita (Rivera) and Manuel Lucero, and died on the morning of Jan. 20, 2019 in Portales. Miguel was a cowboy and in his younger years broke horses and rode broncs in rodeos. He worked in different ranches. When he moved to Portales, he was employed by the City of Portales in the Street and Sanitation Departments for 24 years until his retirement. Mr. Lucero was a quiet and kind man and will be missed by those who knew him.

He is survived by his brothers, Epifanio (Isabel) Lucero, Oraldo (Alice) Lucero and Albert Lucero of Las Vegas, NM; a sister, Maria Fidelia (Frank) Ulibarri of Albuquerque, NM, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Lucero and Juanita Ribera Lucero, his brothers, Antonio and Jose Lucero, and a sister, Feliz (Ernesto) Salaz.
