Ludell Heflin, known to her family and many of her friends as “Loodle,” was born Sept. 16, 1955 in Portales, to the home of Leta Jo (Harris) and Bill Grimes, and died May 9, 2018 in Lubbock, TX. Loodle grew up in Portales, and graduated from Portales High School in 1973. She enlisted in the US Marine Corps, and served until 1976. After her discharge, Loodle moved to Chicago, where she worked in a Motorola Factory. In 1980, she moved to Colorado Springs, but soon after that she came back to Portales. On Aug. 16, 1981 in Portales, she was married to the love of her life, Danny Heflin. Together they established Danny Heflin Builders, and worked as a team running not only the contracting business, but purchasing houses that they rented and resold. Later they established a paint store and a glass company which she managed in addition to the rentals.
Ludell was fiercely devoted to her family. She was a faithful and generous friend. She really enjoyed doing wood crafts and going fishing, even though she rarely caught anything. She painted rocks before that was popular. Loodle was a people person, and always had a ready laugh. She was a very welcoming host, and always made her guests feel at home.
She is survived by her husband, Danny of their home; her children, Chad and Kim Heflin of Portales, Shae and Josh Valencia of Las Vegas, NV, Danny and Heather Heflin of Portales, Stacey Heflin of Parrish, FL and Tracey and Jim Ganatos of Boise, ID; nine grandchildren, Savana Heflin, Donovan and Dakota Trayon, Cole and Raylynn Heflin, Haley and Hanna Ganatos and Madison and Lex Koustoudis; her mother, Leta Grimes of Portales; a brother, Kenny Grimes of CO and a sister, Debbie Grimes of Portales. She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Grimes.
