Funeral services for Lorene “Rene” Griffin, 74, of Odessa, TX will be at 2:00 P.M., Sat., Oct. 13, 2018 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Thom Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery.
Lorene Griffin returned to her heavenly home on October 9th, 2018. Lorene was born on July 19th,1944 in Centerville, TX. She was the 3rd of thirteen children born to the late Gladys Griffin (Melvin). She was born and raised in Texas and moved to Portales, New Mexico in 1964 where she raised her three children.
Rene was known as an outstanding cook and worked for many years at the Christian Children’s Home. She provided wonderful meals but she also provided love and comfort to the children at the home.
After retiring Rene devoted her time to her three grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye. Later when her health begin to decline she moved to Texas to be with them.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Griffin; Her daughter, Beatrice Griffin; Her son, Maurice Griffin; Four brothers JC, Charles, Gary and Aeron Griffin and one Sister, Charlene Griffin. Survivors include her daughter, Lola Brooks (Eric); Three grandchildren RaeShawn, Gary and Jamar; One brother, Earnest Griffin of Roswell, NM; Seven sisters, Doris Helen (Dennis) Forester of Dallas, TX, Freddie (Willie) Douglas, Necia and Nettie Griffin of Clovis, NM, Betty Carreras of Oakland, CA, Rebecca (Mitch) Wood of Lubbock, TX, Denise Griffin of Austin, TX and numerous nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly.
Lorene (Rene) was passionate about her faith, her family and her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
