Graveside services for Kenneth “Ken” Allen, 82, of Arch, NM will be held at 10:00 AM, Sat., Feb. 16, 2019 in the Portales Cemetery with Rev. Brian Tabor officiating. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to either the New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home, P O Box 629, Portales, NM 88130 or to the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home, 1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130.

Kenneth Earl Allen, known to family and friends as “Ken,” was born May 31, 1936 in Meridian, OK to the home of Madge Helen (Jones) and Daniel Edward Allen, and died Feb. 14, 2019 in Clovis, NM. Mr. Allen served in the US Armed Forces in the early 1950’s. On July 5, 1956 in Spokane, WA, he was married to Betty Perry. The couple made their home in Albuquerque, where he was employed for a time at the Montgomery Ward store. Later, he and a brother-in-law ran a filling station. Eventually he became employed as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service, and retired after 34 years of service. In 1993, Mr. Allen moved to the Arch community, where he continued his craft of building saddle trees and stitching horses for leather workers. He had been retired due to his health since 2012. In addition to the other things he created, he also enjoyed making toys and building custom cabinets. He was reared in the Methodist church.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Allen of Albuquerque; Carmen Molina, his companion for the past 24 years of Portales; a daughter, Dana Pomroy of Albuquerque; a step-daughter and son-in-law, Felicia and Mark Espinoza of Portales; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Damian and Malisa Molina of Portales; 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; as well as other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bobby Allen, a sister, Eva Jo Condo and a daughter, Dawn Yrene.
