Jose Antonio “Tony” Romero
A visitation for Tony Romero, 92, of Portales, will be held on Thursday evening, Nov. 1, 2018 at Wheeler Mortuary. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Fri., Nov. 2 with Pastor Peter Jaramillo and Pastor David Lombrana officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Gary Romero, David Burris, Matthew Burris, Angel Segovia, Michael Torres and Paul Torres serving as pallbearers. Isaac Montano is an honorary pallbearer.
Jose “Tony” Romero was born on Mar. 19, 1926 in Winslow, Arizona to the home of Catalina (Rivera) Romero and Elias Romero, and died on the morning of Oct. 30, 2018 in Lubbock. Tony married Elsie Martinez in May of 1950 in Villanueva, NM. They moved to Portales in 1952. Tony worked on the farm raising animals. He enjoyed cooking and was a very hard worker. Tony was loved by all of his friends at the community center as well as all of his family.
He is survived by his sons, Leroy Romero and wife Diana of Clovis and Pete Jaramillo and wife Alice of Clovis; his brother, Ramon Lucero of Las Vegas, NM; his sister, Mela Gallegos and husband Tim of Villanueva, NM; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Freddy Romero and Robert “Bobby” Romero; his daughters, Josie Burris and Marcella Torres; three brothers; one sister, and his wife, Elsie Romero in 1990.
