The Rosary for Jose Adelio “Fred” Lucero, 71, of Portales, will be recited at 7:00 PM, Fri., Oct. 5, 2018 at Wheeler Mortuary. The funeral service will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Sat., Oct. 6 with Joe Majors officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Victor Garcia, T. J. Garcia, Steve Garcia, Jr., Danny Lucero, Nick Lucero and Mycah Garcia serving as pallbearers.
Jose “Fred” Lucero was born April 5, 1947 in Villanueva, Mexico to the home of Rosa (Ramirez) and Abelino Lucero, and died on the evening of Oct. 1, 2018 in Portales. Fred grew up in Villanueva, and later moved to Portales. He married Adelina Amaro in Hereford, TX. Fred worked at several different places including the cotton gins, the race track and other construction jobs. He was a very hard worker and loved his family very much.
He is survived by his son, Lorenzo Lucero of Portales; his father, Abelino Lucero of Portales; two brothers, Leon Lucero of Portales and Sammy Lucero of Memphis, TX; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Maria and Esteban Garcia of Portales, Adelina and Ernest Villanueva of Portales, Stella and Joe Madrid of Portales and Antonia and Martin Zamora of Wynnemucca, NV; two half sisters, Christine Cardoza and Josephina Ramirez, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Adelina Lucero, infant daughter, Isabel Lucero and his mother, Rosa Lucero.
