Funeral services for Jewell Maxine (Musick) Wilhoit, 93, of Portales will be at 10:00 A.M., Mon., June 11, 2018 at the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ with her son, Dennis Wilhoit officiating. Burial will be in the Portales Cemetery with Justin Brown, Eric Wilhoit, Andy Wilhoit, Trace Wilhoit, Grant Wilhoit, Miles Manasco, Kirk Manasco, James Manasco, Stan Musick and Kerry Musick serving as pallbearers. Gordon Musick, Lynn Wilhoit and Glynn Wilhoit will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 PM. Those desiring to make memorial contributions may send them to either Mountain State Children’s Home, P O Box 1097, Longmont, CO 80502 or to Rotary House, MD Anderson, 1600 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030 memorial in the name of Maxine Wilhoit.
Maxine, as she was known to family and friends alike, was born Nov. 26, 1924 in Inez, NM to John and Willie (Tollett) Musick, and died June 7, 2018 in Portales. Maxine attended all twelve years of school at Rogers, NM and graduated in 1942. She attended Eastern New Mexico College for one year. On May 30, 1943 she was married to Lowel Wilhoit. They farmed together west of Portales.

Maxine was a faithful member of the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ, but more than that, she was a truly godly woman. She was also a member of the Bethel Homemakers Club, and served as a leader for the Hustlers 4-H Club. Maxine enjoyed crocheting and gardening. She loved growing flowers, as well as vegetables for her family. Maxine served as the family photographer and historian, recording her travels to visit each of her children. Over the past several years, she had been to California, Colorado, and Texas, as well as Germany, England, and Japan.

She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dennis and Mary Leslie Wilhoit of Los Alamos, NM, Clyde Wilhoit of Lovington, NM and Walter and Rashell Wilhoit of Brussels, Belgium; two daughters and sons-in-law, Johnanna and Roy Rush of Longmont, CO and Shirley and Jim Brown of San Angelo, TX; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Betty Musick of Lubbock, TX; two brothers-in-law, Lynn (Cathy) Wilhoit and Glynn Wilhoit of Portales; six sisters-in-law, Maxene Pierson of Waco, TX, Imogene Marshall of Portales, Joyce George of Slaton, TX, Blanche Hudson of Portales, Frances Alexander of Roswell, NM and Jo Gibbs of Lone Oak, TX. She was preceded in death by a brother, Claude Houston Musick, two granddaughters, Roi Leigh (Rush) McKee and Shawna Lyn Rush, a son, Andy Monroe Wilhoit, who died Nov. 16, 1982 and by her beloved husband, Lowel who died Nov. 20, 1990 after more than 47 years of marriage.
