The Rosary for Ignacio “Nash” Garcia, 55 of Laredo, TX will be recited at 9:00 AM, Sat., May 12, 2018 at St. Helen Catholic Church. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 AM by Fr. Charles Ugochuckwu. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Gregory Garcia, Gabriel Garcia, Jimmy Vigil, Matthew Garcia, Caleb Vigil and Miguel Garcia serving as pallbearers. Robert Garcia, David Garcia, Raymond Garcia, Steve Garcia, Manuel Garcia and Pat Garcia will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Ignacio Jose Garcia, known to family and friends as “Nash,” was born Nov. 21, 1962 in Sena, NM to the home of Erinea Irene (Vigil) and Miguel Garcia and died May 3, 2018 in Laredo, TX where he had lived for the past several years. Nash grew up in Portales and graduated from Portales High in 1981, where he played defensive back on the state championship football team. On July 2, 1982 he was married to Edwina Garnanez. For several years, Nash worked at the local Gibson’s store. Later he worked as manager of Alco stores in New Mexico and Kansas, and then as manager for Perry’s in a number of locations in Texas and New Mexico. For several years he has made his home in Laredo, TX where he managed the Family Dollar and finally Party City. While he was in Portales, he helped year after year with the “Santa Cop” program.

Nash enjoyed gardening and taking care of his vehicles. He loved to walk, and never missed a morning no matter what the weather was like. He was a diehard fan of the Dallas Cowboys, and of the San Antonio Spurs. He also liked watching wrestling matches and playing basketball with his friends. He was a devoted husband and father, and a doting grandfather. Nash was a member of the Catholic Church.

He is survived by Edwina, his wife of nearly 36 years of their home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory Ignacio and Bella Garcia of Katy, TX and Gabriel Perry-Natanni and Ivy Garcia of Laredo, TX; two daughters, Natasha Clarissa Garcia of Bismarck, ND and Nicole April Garcia of Shiprock, NM; two grandchildren, Richard Perry Garcia and Nathalya Valentine Garcia; six brothers and three sisters-in-law, Robert and Maryann Garcia of Portales, David and Marcella Garcia of Bernalillo, NM, Raymond and Lupe Garcia of Rio Rancho, NM, Steve Garcia of Portales, and Manuel S. Garcia and Pat Garcia both of Albuquerque, NM; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mabel Vigil of Ribera, NM, and Shella and Sal Martinez of Albuquerque, NM; and another brother-in-law, Paul Flynn of Odessa, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Jeanie Flynn and Orlanda Dean and two brothers-in-law, Don Dean and Tony Vigil and an infant sister, Marcella Garcia.
