The Rosary for Hermelinda Hernandez, 89, of Portales will be recited at 9:00 AM, Fri., Dec. 14, 2018 at St. Helen Catholic Church, followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 AM with Fr. Charles Ugochukwu as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Christopher Moreno, James Gallegos, Santiago Segovia, Paul Jaramillo, Jr., Jonathan Gonzales, Michael Acosta, Bobby Terry and Gabriel Hernandez serving as pallbearers.

Hermelinda Hernandez was born Sept. 22, 1929 in San Antonio, TX to the home of Guadalupe (Rivas) and Maximo Lira Gonzales and was welcomed into the arms of Jesus early on the morning of Dec. 10, 2018 at her home in Portales. She grew up in New Braunfels, TX, and for much of her early life she worked as a housekeeper in hotels and various professional offices. Later she worked in the Frito Lay Potato Chip factory. In the early 1960’s she moved to New Mexico where she did work in the fields for various farmers. She had lived in Portales since about 1967. She enjoyed doing sewing and quilting as well as taking care of her garden and yard.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Ninfa Moreno of Portales and George and Stacey Gonzales of Midland, TX; four daughters and a son-in-law, Ester Mena of Snyder, TX, Suzy Collopy of Hobbs, NM, Josie Gonzales of Portales and Sandy and Joseph Terry of Portales; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Jose, Jessie and Juan Gonzales, three sisters, Aurora Camarillo, Maria Perez and Amelia Fuentes, two sons, Raymond and David Gonzales and two daughters, Guadalupe Martinez and Mary Lou Acosta.
