A memorial service for Bessie Mae Tipton, 83, of Portales will be held at 11:00 A.M., Fri, June 15, 2018 at the Church of God in Portales with Pastor Don Hay officiating.
Bessie Mae tipton was born Aug. 17, 1934 in Portales to the home of Mary (Newman) and Johnny E. Oney, and died June 8, 2018 in Portales. She was a 1952 graduate of Portales High School. She was married to Kenneth Tipton, and the couple had one son before divorcing. Mrs. Tipton began working at Eastern New Mexico University in 1988 as a custodian, and retired in 2013 after 25 years. She was a very independent lady, and as a single mother, she learned how to do her own mechanic work and carpentry. She enjoyed keeping a beautiful yard and flower garden. Bessie loved children, and was a very devoted grandmother.
She is survived by an adopted son, Giovannie Tobar-Tipton of Lubbock, TX; three grandchildren, Tazcosa Tipton, Tayler Tipton and Kiana Tipton; and her daughter-in-law, Adela Tipton of Portales. She was preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Kingston and her son, Kenneth Tipton, Jr. who died in May of this year.
