Visitation for Eulalio Guerrero, 78, of Portales, will be from 8 AM to 8 PM, Wed., Mar. 21, 2018 at Wheeler Mortuary in Portales with cremation to follow.
Eulalio Salazar Guerrero, known to family and friends as “Lalo” or “El Gato Negro,” was born Nov. 1, 1939 in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico and died Mar. 18, 2018 in Portales, NM. While still living in Mexico, he served in the Mexican Army. In 1976, he came to Clovis to live, and in 1978 he was married to Juanita Frausto. Mr. Guerrero made his living working on various local farms.
He enjoyed gardening, and always raised a large vegetable garden. Family was very important to him, and he loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lalo loved to be outdoors, and spent many hours sitting on the porch, or having backyard cookouts. He particularly liked to do “Disco” cooking. In addition, he liked to listen to music. He was a good mechanic, and was always ready to try to make or fix something himself. After the death of his wife in 2001, he worked for a short time at the local sale barn, but had to retire after he was injured in 2003.
He is survived by three sons, Hector Garcia and wife, Lillie, Jose Valadez and Robert Valadez and his companion, Samantha Garcia all of Portales; three step-daughters, Diana Messersmith of New Jersey, Salome Garcia of College Station, TX and Cathy (Rogelio) Martha of Levelland, TX; two granddaughters, Janie (Timothy) Olguin and Matilda Garcia both of Clovis; and a grandson, Juan (Erin) Arellano, Jr. of Portland, OR; as well as numerous other grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was also preceded in death by a step-daughter, Mary E. Garcia of Portales.
