The Mass of the Resurrection for Ermenia “Erma” Manzanares, 87, of Portales will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Wed., Feb. 7, 2018 at St. Helen Catholic Church with Fr. Angelo Marquez officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with her many grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be her great and great-great-grandchildren.
Ermenia Manzanares, was called to be with our Lord on Sat., Feb. 3, 2018. Erma was born on April 19, 1930 in Sena, NM to Daniel and Marieta Salazar. She was married to Arcenio Manzanares in Trinidad, CO on Dec. 5, 1945.
She worked at the Portales Casing Plant for 20 years until the plant was relocated to Piedra Negras, Mexico. She retired from Cotton Growers Association in Littlefield, TX. She was also a volunteer for LaCasa De Buena Salud.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and being around her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arcenio, who died July 21, 2004, her parents, Daniel and Marieta Gallegos-Salazar, her “mother,” Polly Gallegos, sons, Darrell and Toby Manzanares, son-in-law, Max Montano, brother, Willie Salazar, sister, Bernie McElvaine, brother-in-law, Eugene Chavez, Sr., grandson, Gerard Sisneros, great-granddaughter, Gloria Dawn Olivas and great-grandsons, Luciano Ochoa and Ryu Pena.
She is survived by her children, Marcella Montano of Artesia, NM, Christine and Joe Sisneros of Portales, NM, Loretta and Raymond Tarango of Odessa, TX, Gloria and Jesse Tarango of Andrews, TX, Leroy and Martha Manzanares of Portales, NM, Chris and Connie Manzanares of Las Vegas, NM, Sylvia Manzanares of Lubbock, TX and Denise Manzanares of Roswell, NM. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great-grandchildren.
