Funeral services for Deloris Widener, 64, of Clovis, will be at 2:00 PM, Wed., Nov. 29, 2017 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Greg McCann officiating, assisted by Don Cates. Burial will follow in the Floyd Cemetery with Kelly Cates, Colin Chandler, Larry Bright, Kirby Wanger, Jess Harwell and D. J. Gall serving as pallbearers. Wayne Cook, Brownie Hightower and Ira Widener will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Deloris Jewel Widener was born June 6, 1953 in Perryton, TX to the home of Dolita Marie (Thomason) and Alvin Cates, and died Nov. 23, 2017 in Amarillo, TX. Until the age of 12 she lived with her family on a farm in Beaver County, OK. In 1965, they moved to the Arch community. She graduated from Portales High School in 1971. In the fall of 1971, she met Dennis Widener, and they were married Jan. 1, 1972 at her parents’ home. Deloris remained at home to care for her growing family until her children were in school. Then in 1985 she began working in Receiving at Wal Mart. She later moved to the Cash office where she oversaw the daily receipts. Her last position was to oversee Accounts Payable. She retired in 2011 after 26 years with the Wal Mart store.

Deloris had a great love for horses and horseback riding. She taught herself many different crafts through the years, and was a very accomplished in working leather. For many years she drove tractors for her husband and father-in-law, and worked in the fields, planting and harvesting.

She is survived by Dennis, her husband of almost 46 years, of their home in Clovis; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lynn Widener of Clovis and Will Widener his wife, Casey Williams of Albuquerque; one grandchild, Ira Widener; her mother, Marie Cates of Farwell, TX; two brothers, Bob Cates of Channing, TX and Dewayne Cates of Hereford, TX; two sisters, Marilyn Bright of Clovis and Judy Harwell of Arch; and her mother-in-law, Ila Fae Widener of Floyd.
