SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico baseball team fell to No. 13 nationally-ranked Angelo State University, 15-0, on Friday night.
The Rams jumped out to a slight 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Both teams battled defensively throughout the next few frames, with the Greyhounds looking to cut into ASU’s advantage.
However, Angelo State broke open the contest in the fifth inning with five runs to make the score 6-0. Aaron Walters and Nicholas Novak both drove in two runs on singles.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Rams added nine more runs after taking advantage of six walks and an error as well as tallying two hits. One of those two hits was a three-run homer from Reese Johnson.
The Hounds were unable to get the bats going so ASU secured the 15-0 seven-inning victory.
Offensively, Eastern saw hits from Camden Matthews, Nicholas Tamez, and Jude Perea. C. Matthews also had a stolen base in the contest.
On the mound, Fernando Burgos got the start and the loss for the Greyhounds in 4.1 innings of work. James Romero, Tyler Cobb, Dempsey Battin, and James Puga also saw time on the hill.
Eastern and Angelo State meet again on Saturday (4/17) for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
