Santa Fe, NM – Potentially hazardous conditions are prompting lake closures at multiple State Parks in New Mexico.
The State Parks Division of the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD) advises that boating and ice fishing are currently prohibited at Bluewater Lake State Park, Fenton Lake State Park, Heron Lake State Park, and Sugarite Canyon State Park’s Lake Maloya and Lake Alice. These are in addition to the lake surface at Eagle Nest Lake State Park, which was announced as closed earlier this month.
Ice is forming over portions of the lakes, but not to the extent needed to allow public access to ice fishing or to support any watercraft, including canoes, kayaks, inflatables, and motorized boats. Staff are monitoring conditions daily and will advise when the lakes are open for ice fishing.
Day-use access, including hiking and camping, is still available depending on weather conditions. For updates on lake conditions, visit our website at https://www.emnrd.nm.gov/ and click on “Find a Park” or “State Park Alerts.”
