The Rosary for Nick E. Chavez, 82, of Portales, will be recited at 9:00 AM, Fri., July 30, 2021 at St. Helen Catholic Church. The Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:00 AM, with Fr. Francisco Carbajal as celebrant. Burial will be in the Portales Cemetery with Sandy Lucero, Kathy Shallenberger, Joe Chavez, Joshua Chavez, Chris Ortiz and George Wood serving as pallbearers.
Nick E. Chavez was called home by our Heavenly Father on Thursday, July 22, 2021. He was born on March 25, 1939, in Terrero, NM.
On Sept. 7, 1959 he was married to Connie Pacheco. Many in the community will remember Nick’s employment as a manager at the Selected Casings plant, the Ethanol Plant, and his final employment at the local Southwest Canners Coca Cola plant.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie on Dec. 2, 2014 after more than 55 years of marriage; a son Patrick, his parents Felicita Chavez and Benito Chavez, and two brothers, Camilo Chavez and Ray Chavez.
Nick is survived by his son, Nick Chavez, Jr. of Rio Rancho, a granddaughter, Hanna Chavez of Clovis and a grandson, Josh Chavez of Portales; a great-grandson, Zack Chavez of Clovis; brothers, Joe Chavez and wife, Clara of Los Trigos, Charlie Chavez and wife, Carol of Albuquerque, Tony Chavez and wife, Lolly of Albuquerque, Albert Chavez and wife, Connie of Albuquerque, and a sister Grace Ortiz and husband, Chris of Albuquerque. He is also survived by four half brothers, Fred Baca and wife, Maria of Hernandez, Joseph Baca and wife, Diane of Los Alamos, Victor Baca and wife, Nicole of Amarillo, and Michael Baca of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
