SANTA FE, NM – At their August 14, 2024, meeting the New Mexico County
Insurance Authority (NMCIA) Board of Directors appointed Eddy County
Manager Roberta Gonzales to fill the southeast geographic director vacancy,
the position previously held by former Roosevelt County Manager Amber
Hamilton.
Gonzales will hold the position until the self-insurance pool’s annual
membership meeting on January 21, 2025, when voting representatives from
Chaves, De Baca, Eddy, Lea, Lincoln, Otero and Roosevelt Counties elect a
director to the position for the 2025-2026 term.
The Board held its August 14 meeting in Roosevelt County at the Jake Lopez
Community Center and hosted a dinner the previous evening in honor of
outgoing board member Amber Hamilton.
“We are grateful for the deep experience and knowledge Amber brought to
this board since her election in 2021,” said Risk Management Director Grace
Philips. “And we are excited to work with Roberta Gonales and welcome her
to the NMCIA board of directors.”
Gonzales was hired as the Eddy County manager in April 2024, having
worked for Eddy County nine years, previously serving as finance director.
“We are thrilled to welcome Roberta to the Board and look forward to her
county government expertise, particularly her knowledge of finance, as we
close out the 2024 policy year” said Chair Lance Pyle.
NMCIA is a county insurance pool that provides coverage for workers’
compensation, property, liability, and law enforcement for member
counties. The Board of Directors is responsible for protecting the assets of
the Pool, approving affordable insurance coverages for its members, and
making smart decisions in the best interest of all county members. The
Board is comprised of county elected officials and employees representing
each of the four geographical districts, each Class A county, and a
representative for each small, mid-level, and mid-level-high population
county.
