2022-2023 Wildfire Risk Reduction Program Grant Recipients

SANTA FE, NM – New Mexico Counties awarded over $222,000 to nine grant recipients for community wildfire protection plan updates, fuel reduction treatments, and education efforts through the 2022-2023 Wildfire Risk Reduction Grant Program for Rural Communities. Grant recipients include Ciudad Soil & Water Conservation District (2 grants – education and fuels), Dixon Community Fire District, East Mountain Interagency Fire Protection Association, Rio Arriba County, Socorro County, South Central Mountain RC&D Council, Taos County, and Valencia County. The collaborative betting process includes Bureau of Land Management, Forest Stewards Guild, NM Counties, and NM State Land Office.

Wildfire awareness, mitigation, and resilience are crucial to New Mexico and its communities especially now in evolving ecosystems. The Wildfire Risk Reduction Program aids local governments, tribal entities, and non-profits throughout New Mexico’s at-risk communities. Through a partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, NMC has awarded more than $7 million in grants since 2005.
