Nelda Lynn Cole was born June 3, 1950 in Portales to the home of Pearl and J. E. Latta, Jr., and died early the morning of Feb. 23, 2017 in Lubbock, TX. Nelda lived her entire life in Portales. In Oct. of 1968 she was married to Bobby Cole. She enjoyed playing softball for as long as her health would permit. She began working in the x-ray department at Roosevelt General Hospital, and did on the job training. For 20 years or more she worked as an x-ray tech first at RGH, and then at Clovis Memorial Hospital, and finally at Plains Regional Medical Center. She stopped working about 1990, and since then she had enjoyed being able to be at home and take care of her grandchildren, work in the yard, do jigsaw puzzles and read all the books she wanted to read. Nelda loved to read westerns and mysteries, and watch John Wayne movies. Recently she had enjoyed watching Walking Dead and Texas Walker on television.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Piper Cole of Rockwall, TX; two daughters, Tammy Williams of Clovis and Stacey Rowland of Portales; nine grandchildren, D’Leigha and Kaitlin Williams, Cole, Kenzee and Keilee Rowland and Hadley, Brenner, Bodhan and Maris Cole; one great-grandchild, J’Leigh Stansberry; her father, J. E. Latta, Jr. of Portales; and two sisters, Glenda (Dusty) Dudley of Clovis and Evelyn Shiplett of Portales. She was preceded in death by her mother, Pearl Latta and a brother-in-law, Bobby Shiplett.
