3/12/2020 | General INDIANAPOLIS – NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors announced this afternoon that the Division I men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships will be canceled.
This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, the ability to ensure the events do not contribute to the spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities.
This cancellation affects two Eastern New Mexico athletic programs as the women’s basketball team was set to face Texas A&M-Commerce in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National Tournament tomorrow afternoon in Lubbock, Texas. That event has been canceled effective immediately.
Eastern New Mexico indoor track and field athlete Ivar Moinat was scheduled to compete in the 800-meter race at the Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Ala. this weekend. The Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships have officially been canceled effective immediately as well.
