The Eastern New Mexico women’s soccer team finished out nonconference play with a 3-1 loss to Metropolitan State University of Denver on Sunday afternoon.
The Roadrunners got on the board first with a tally from Elli Zimmer just under 30 minutes into the contest.
Just over two minutes into the second half, Selena Casias sent a long shot on target that sailed past the hands of the MSU Denver goalkeeper, but a defender was on the far side of the goal to keep the ball out of the net. Katey Stice corralled the rebound and sent it past the defender to make it a 1-1 game.
MSU Denver saw two quick goals later in the half, just 17 seconds apart from Miriam Caballero and Katy Coats to take a 3-1 lead. The Roadrunners kept the Greyhounds off the board the rest of the way to secure the win.
NOTABLE STATS
- Stice’s goal was her third of the season. She leads the team in both goals and points (6).
- The Roadrunners held a 22-5 shot advantage throughout the contest. They also held an 11-3 advantage with shots on goal.
- Whitney Dockweiler made eight saves in net and is now 2-3 on the season.
- Kayla Caballero got the start in goal for MSU Denver and allowed one goal in 71:42 minutes. Kylie Bach finished out the game and made one save.
- The Hounds now hold a 2-3 overall record.
