Obituary
Mona Lea Johnston, 90, went to be with the Lord February 6, 2023 in Lubbock, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her two sisters Ouida Haywood and Betty Gray, her loving husband of 60 years, James Paul Johnston.
She is lovingly remembered by her family, daughter Tamara Dianne Maddox, her son, Danny Lee Johnston, her grandchildren, Lisa Joanna Lander, James Lee Ham, Tyler Blake Johnston, Aaron Paul Johnston, Jared Colton Johnston, and Tori LeaAnn Johnston, great grandchildren, Markelle Jolie` Lander and Brynn Leeann Ham, and Eoin Christopher Lee Johnston.
Mona has one surviving sibling, Drue Best Jr. as well as several nieces and nephew.
Mona was married to James Paul Johnston August 29, 1958 in Portales, New Mexico. After their marriage, James finished his degree in education and as a result, they lived in various places in New Mexico, the longest being in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. Mona retired as a bookkeeper from the local electric coop as did James from his position as principal of Cloudcroft schools. Lubbock, Texas became their final home in order to be close to medical providers. Their greatest love was traveling the great United States in their RV, visiting family, sight-seeing, and enjoying new adventures!
Mona will be remembered as a sweet, loving person. She was loved and cared for during her final years by her daughter Tamara.
