DES MOINES, Iowa – Junior middle distance runner Ivar Moinat continued his tear on the track during the 2019 season as the Amsterdam, Netherlands native came away with a third-place finish in the 800-meter event at the prestigious Drake Relays on Saturday.
Competing in the seeded 800-meter run that featured the best middle distance runners in the meet, Moinat turned in a time of 1:52.25 to finish ahead of 13 other competitors, including nine runners from NCAA Division I programs.

While weather conditions were less than optimal, Moinat powered through the frigid, rainy conditions with a strong final lap, running the third-fastest final 400 meters with a 58.04 to climb four spots from seventh after the first lap to third at the finish line.

A meet featuring some of the top collegiate competitors in the country, Moinat continued a rich tradition of Eastern New Mexico track and field athletes competing in the meet, including ENMU Hall of Honors member Mike Boit, who is also a member of the Drake Relays Hall of Fame Class of 1981 as well as Rex Maddaford, who still owns the Drake Relays record in the Mile event.
Moinat and the rest of the Greyhounds will now turn their attention to the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships as Eastern New Mexico will be hosting the event for the first time in the history of the program. The three-day event at Greyhound Stadium will begin with heptathlon and pentathlon events on Thursday, May 2 and will conclude with multiple championship running events on Saturday, May 4.
