RICHARDSON, Texas – Following a weekend sweep of Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville, Mikaela Garvin and Rae Sapiga of Greyhound Volleyball picked up Lone Star Conference weekly honors, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.Garvin was selected as the LSC Offensive Player of the Week, while Sapiga picked up LSC Setter of the Week.
Garvin had a highly efficient weekend during the Hounds 2-0 weekend. The San Antonio, Texas native posted 14 kills with a hitting percentage of .433, while making just one hitting error during ENMU’s 3-2 victory over Texas A&M International. The next day, Garvin was clinical again with 13 kills on 23 swings, with one error, for a hitting percentage of .522 in a 3-0 sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville. For the week, Garvin tallied 3.38 kills per set while hitting .472.
Sapiga helped extend the Greyhounds win streak to five straight this past weekend. The setter supplied 31 assists in Eastern’s 3-2 victory over Texas A&M International while following up the next with 26 assists in the Hounds 3-0 sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville. The marks were the second and third most assists for Sapiga during the season as the team posted a .256 hitting percentage. For the week, Sapiga had 7.13 assists per set in the 6-2 offense, four aces, and 12 digs.
Garvin and Sapiga are the first two Greyhounds to receive a weekly honors since Jennifer Martinez won offensive player of the week along with Alba Onterverios winning defensive player of the week on Sept. 25, 2018. Sapiga is the first Greyhound to win setter of the week in over a decade, with the last Veronica Valdez-Kent being the last Greyhound to claim the accolade on Sept. 21, 2010.
ENMU volleyball look to continue its winning streak traveling to Lubbock Christian University on Friday, Nov. 5. First serve is set for 5 p.m. at the Rip Griffin Center.
