The Eastern New Mexico women’s soccer team traveled to Midwestern State University for a midweek Lone Star Conference contest Wednesday night and was handed a 3-0 loss.
After a lengthy delay to the start of the game due to lightning, both teams battled hard in the first half, but neither was able to open the scoring.
The Mustangs held a 9-1 overall shot advantage but the shots on goal through 45 minutes of play stood at 1-1.
Midwestern State got on the board early in the second half with a tally from Lexi Beck. Marissa Resendez stretched the Mustang lead out to 2-0 with a goal just 12 minutes later.
With time winding down, Hayden Zuniga scored on a penalty kick after a handball in the box to make it a 3-0 game.
Eastern continued to look for offensive opportunities but ultimately Midwestern State held its ground to secure the victory.

With the loss, Eastern falls to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in LSC play, while MSU is now 4-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the LSC.

The Greyhounds are back in Portales on Saturday, October 2 when they host St. Edward’s University at 12 p.m. Saturday’s game is part of ENMU’s Homecoming Weekend events.
