No formal services are planned for Michael Dean Roberts, 52, of Elida.
Michael Dean Roberts was born April 8, 1968 in Dallas, TX to the home of Howard Roberts and died Mar. 8, 2021 in Portales, NM. Michael grew up in Clovis where he graduated from high school in 1986. He went on to attend ENMU in Portales, and WTSU in Canyon, TX earning an Associate’s Degree in Electronics and a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. In 1993, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and was told he would live less than a week. In reality, he survived nearly 28 years. On Jan. 21, 2001 in Amarillo, TX, he was married to Phyllis Jean Deal. Together they owned and operated Custom Computers where he did custom computer work, computer repairs and also did IT administrative work as well. In 2004, the family relocated from Amarillo to the family ranch at Elida.
Michael was an avid HAM radio operator and an active member of the Eastern New Mexico Amateur Radio Club. In addition, he was a gun advocate and enthusiast. He spent many hours shooting and talking on his radio. He was a very kind and quiet man, who had a steady handed approach. He loved children and animals, and was always ready to help anyone. He simply saw a need and filled it. Michael’s motto for his life was, “It will all work out.”
Michael is survived by his wife, Phyllis of their home; his mother, Vickie Meeks of Grand Prairie, TX; four brothers, David (Jill) Roberts of Denver, CO, Kenny Roberts of Alamogordo, NM, Richard Boyles of OK and Johnny Boyles of Lubbock, TX; two sisters, Twila Williams and Michelle Wilburn both of Portales; two nieces, Tabitha Roberts and Valerie Collier and family and four nephews, Asher and Dillon Roberts, as well as Buddy Boyles and family and Bandon and Nadine Boyles and family. He was preceded in death by his father and by his daughter, Britt’ny Mowell-Roberts in 2012.
