Micaela “Mickey” Quintero Obituary
Private graveside services will be held for Micaela Quintero, 93, of Portales. Public Visitation will be at Wheeler Mortuary on Monday afternoon from 2 to 5 PM.
Micaela Quintero, known to most people as Mickey, was born Sept. 29, 1931 in Inde, Durango, Mexico to the home of Josefa (Falcon) and Bartolo Villanueva, and died Wed. evening, Mar. 19, 2025 at Retirement Ranch in Clovis. She first came to the United States in the late 1950’s to work in El Paso. The family she was working for helped her get her citizenship papers.
On July 27, 1958, she was married to Antonio Quintero. In the early 1960’s they move to Portales to make their home. For several years she worked at the Selected Casings plant until its closure in the late 1960’s. She then went to work in the physical plant at Eastern New Mexico University where she was employed for 25 years. Following her retirement in the mid 1990’s, she began working at La Casa as a housekeeper. After about five years, Mrs. Quintero became a Senior Companion at the Community Services Center. She had been retired since approximately 2015.
Mrs. Quintero loved to walk, and religiously took her daily walk in the morning. She also went to CURVES for exercise. In addition, Mrs. Quintero liked to shop. She was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church.
Survivors include her son, Michael Quintero of Portales; four daughters, Patsy Counts of Vicksburg, MS, Grace Uihlein of Decatur, GA, Mona Quintero of Portales and Lisa Dunstone of Belleville, IL; 14 grandchildren and another expected this summer, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Florentino Villanueva, three sisters, Julia Astorga, Guadelupe Acosta and Bertha Dominguez, a son, Tino Quintero who died in 2004, and by her husband, Antonio who died Feb. 7, 2005.
