Men’s Soccer Inks Another International Talent; Sign Leon Nelson

Eastern New Mexico men’s soccer is excited to announce the singing of Leon Nelson, a 5-8 central midfielder from Newcastle, England, who will join the squad this upcoming fall.

Nelson has spent the last two seasons at Urbana University in Ohio where he started in all 18 games, notching three goals and one game winner in his sophomore campaign for the Blue Knights.

Before taking his talents across the pond, Nelson was a high school standout at Monkseaton Football Academy where he played with fellow Greyhound Joe Conway. Monkseaton is a well-respected program throughout England and is considered to be the best outside of the professional programs in the country.

Nelson began his soccer playing career competing for the Premier League Club Newcastle United’s youth development team from U9’s to U15’s where he sharpened his skills against other youth academies across England. He helped carry the Newcastle City Juniors to multiple Division I League Titles and Regionals Cups while also being named the NMSL Division I Player of the Season at the U10 level.
