Men’s Basketball  Nicolle Holcomb

The Eastern New Mexico men’s basketball team heads to Canyon, Texas this weekend to participate in the 2021 Pak-A-Sak WT Thanksgiving Classic hosted by West Texas A&M University. On Friday, November 26 the Greyhounds take on Southwestern Oklahoma State University at 6:30 p.m. Eastern faces Oklahoma Baptist University at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27. All games will be played at the First United Bank Center.

LAST TIME OUT

• The Eastern New Mexico men’s basketball team enters the weekend with a 2-2 overall record after two home wins this past week. The Hounds defeated Northern New Mexico College, 87-80, on Friday, November 19, before handing Oklahoma Panhandle State University an 85-72 loss on Monday, Nov. 22.
• Against Northern New Mexico, Yosnier Cobas paced the Eastern offensive with 22 points. He also pulled down a team-leading nine rebounds and led the way in steals with two. Four other Greyhounds netted double-digit points throughout the night. Jose Serrano finished the game with 14 points. James Jordan and Kentrell Pullian both tallied 12 points, while Marvin Mapaga ended the game with 10 points. Jared Perry recorded a team-high two blocks. On the glass, Pullian had seven rebounds, while Mapaga added five.
• In the game against OPSU, Cornell Greenwood and Serrano paced the Eastern offense with 18 points each. Adam Hess added 14 points, while Cobas finished the game with 12. On the glass, Serrano led the way with six rebounds. Pullian and Mapaga each pulled down four rebounds.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION 

Southwestern Oklahoma State University
•The Bulldogs enter the weekend with on overall record of 0-2.
• SWOSU is coming off a 70-54 loss to Fort Hayes State University on Sunday, Nov. 14. 10 different Bulldogs scored in the contest, but only one posted double digits, Jaylan Williams who finished with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Mark Berry led the team in rebounding (6) while three Bulldogs each finished with two assists apiece.
• So far this season, Chris Braggs Jr. paces the team with 13.5 points per game. Tanner Meraz adds 9.5 points per game. Defensively, Kamden Gibson leads the team with 5.5 rebounds per game.

Oklahoma Baptist University 
• The Bison enter the weekend with a 2-1 record (as of 11/22). The Bison will take on Washburn University on Nov. 23 and West Texas A&M on Nov. 26 before facing the Greyhounds on Nov. 27.
• On Friday, Nov. 19, OBU fell, 74-71, to Missouri Western State. Brantly Thompson led all Bison scorers with 20 points while Burke Putnam followed behind with 17. Putnam added six assists and a team-best three steals to his stat sheet. Justin Tene produced valuable minutes for OBU, charting 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Tene also denied two shots and brought down six rebounds. Nigel Wilcox posted a team-high eight rebounds to go along with nine points and a steal. Freshman D.J. Freeman rounded off the Bison notables with seven points and five boards.
• Putman paces the offense with 25 points per game. Brantly Thompson is close behind with 18.7 points per game. Defensively, Wilcox leads the team with 8.3 rebounds per game, while Putman adds 7.0 boards per game.
