The Eastern New Mexico men’s basketball team has recently announced the signing of Austin Kingman from Tacoma Community College in Tacoma, Wash. for the 2019-20 season.

A native of Gig Harbor, Wash., Kingman averaged 15.0 points per game this season for Tacoma Community College and also recorded an average of 4.1 rebounds. A graduate of Peninsula High School, Kingman was raised in a basketball-rich family with his older brother Garrett heading to Division I Hartford next season after teaming up with Austin at Tacoma.

“We’re extremely excited to have Austin as a part of our program,” head coach Tres Segler said, “He is a powerful scorer and a very skilled player that will help strengthen our offensive attack. Austin’s basketball IQ is high and his toughness as a defender will be called upon in our Lone Star Conference battles.”

Kingman scored 10 or more points in all but four games this season, including a career-high 33 points against Walla Walla Community College back on Dec. 15. The 6’8 forward also shot 41.0 percent from three-point range, a skill that coach Segler and the Greyhounds could use as a different maker in their offensive scheme.

“Austin will help our ball-screen motion offense with his high-level three point shooting ability and will create a lot of frustration for opposing defenses with his ability to score inside and outside,” coach Segler said, “He has shown the ability at 6’8 to pick and pop as well as come off screens to hit three-point shots, and those abilities are huge advantages to our style of play. It will be really fun to watch him impact our program with his huge heart and abilities.”
