Obituary for June Margaret Beard (Gonzales)
Graveside services for June Beard, 84, of Elida, will be at 2:00 PM, Wed., Dec. 13, 2017 in the Elida Cemetery with Pastor Darryl Tennefos officiating, assisted by Sid Ortega. Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
June Margaret Beard was born June 30, 1933 in Fort Sumner, NM to the home of Mollie Elizabeth (Valdez) and Frank Gonzales. Mrs. Beard was a devout Christian woman, and cried out to Jesus to take her home. He answered her prayer, Sunday morning, Dec. 10, 2017 at her daughter’s home while holding her son’s and her daughter’s hands.

Mrs. Beard grew up in Yeso and later Ft. Sumner. She was on a roof top helping her father shingle a house when her future husband first saw her. On July 14, 1948 in San Antonio, TX, she was married to Johnny Beard. They were married for 53 years before his death in 2002. After their marriage, the Beard family homestead was her home for the rest of her life. Mrs. Beard worked alongside of her husband doing whatever he happened to be doing. At first, they made a living doing a variety of things. For the majority of their years they did fence contracting, and the entire family worked together.
Mrs. Beard was a member of the Worldwide Church of God. She read her Bible diligently, and loved to study the Word of God. In recent years, Mrs. Beard had taken a deep interest in her family history and genealogy. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, and never missed one of the children’s or grandchildren’s games or functions.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lynn and Mary Beard of Elida; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Shane Ferguson of Elida; a daughter-in-law, Karen West, the widow of her son, Gary Beard, who died April 11, 1975; seven grandchildren, Karie (Juan) Rodriguez, Scott (Michelle) Beard, Tonya (Doyle) Rush, Cody (Kim) Ferguson, Clay (Rianne) Ferguson, Wade (Holly) Beard and Wendy (Sid) Ortega; twenty-six great-grandchildren, Steven (Ashley) Woods, Jonathan Woods, Ember Woods, Jordan Beard, Jayden Beard and Jacoby (Cheyenne) Beard, Daniel (Jasmine) Rush, Levi Rush, Sadie Rush and Ivan Rush, Lacy Ferguson, Colton Ferguson, Radlee Ferguson, Madison Ferguson and Maislyn Ferguson, Kayley Mitchell and Ashley Mitchell, Nick Peters, Hayden Beard, Grady Beard, Chance Beard and Bentley Beard and Alicia Ortega, Tiffany Ortega, Abigail Ortega and Christopher Ortega; five great great-grandchildren, Allysa, and Destyni Woods, Levi Rush and Harlow Beard and Aurora Beard, and two more expected within the next few months; and a sister, Katherine Lockett of El Paso. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Frank “Sonny” Gonzales and Billy Joe Gonzales, as well as by her son, Gary, great grandson, Levi Rush, and her husband Johnny, who died Feb. 7, 2002.
