Obituary for Charles Ray “Charlie” Buzard

Funeral services for Charles “Charlie” Buzard, 79, of Portales, will be 10:00 AM, Wed., April 11, 2018 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Rick Wilcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Floyd Cemetery with Kendell Buzard, Sam Buzard, Andrew Cherry, Jake Buzard, Larry Essary and Don Essary serving as pallbearers. Dale Miller, Herschel Essary, Bob Essary, Joe Essary, Bobby Essary, Chuck Essary, Leon Feazell, Robert Tevebaugh, J. D. Griffith, Randy Mitchell, and Bill Turnbow along with all his many friends will be honorary pallbearers. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Tues., from 6 to 8 PM.

Charles Ray Buzard was born July 25, 1938 in Clovis, to the home of Mary Oleta (Huff) and Luther Ray Buzard, and died April 7, 2018 in Portales. Charlie and his family moved to the Floyd community when he was a young boy, and he lived there until 2008, when he retired from farming and moved to Clovis. On Oct. 18, 1961, in Portales, he was married to Judith Eads. They had two sons together before later divorcing.
Charlie was a gregarious and very generous man. He was always a hard worker, but he also enjoyed taking time to have fun. Charlie was a good business man, and one of the original investors in Sunland Peanuts.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Kendell and Shelly Buzard of Floyd and Sam and Cathy Buzard of Portales; three grandchildren, Casey (Andrew) Cherry, Jake (Jessica) Buzard and Heather Buzard; four great-grandchildren, Kenley and Cameron Cherry, and Kade and Aizley Buzard; two sisters, Sherry (Robert) Tevebaugh of Claude, TX and Elayne (Leon) Feazell of Frisco, TX and a sister-in-law, Linda Buzard of Farwell, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jack and Mike Buzard and a sister, Lenora Buzard.
