Eastern New Mexico University Athletic Director Dr. Greg Waggoner has announced the hiring of Melissa Lee as the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing, Events, and Life Skills. Lee will begin her duties at ENMU on July 9.
“We are pleased to have Melissa on board and part of our team. She has the background, experience and skill sets for all dimensions of this job and she knows and understands ENMU and Portales well, which will provide her some momentum as we move forward,” said Dr. Waggoner. “Melissa will be a definite asset as we move forward to reach our goals in Greyhound Athletics.”
Lee is no stranger to the Portales area and ENMU. She has been a teacher at Portales High School since 2014, and has been a teacher and Technology Coordinator at Floyd High School since 2012. She also was a Graduate Assistant Track and Field Coach at ENMU from 2006-2007 and her husband is Kelley Lee, Head Coach for the ENMU Football team.
“I am extremely grateful and humbled to be a part of the team Dr. Waggoner has put together,” said Lee. “We have a great group of student athletes and coaches and I am excited to be a part of Greyhound nation.”
Lee brings a wealth of experience in an education administration setting as she has been an educator in the state of New Mexico since 2009. In that time she has taught health, credit recovery, been a class sponsor, coached high boys track, has helped coordinate and implement technology needs, and taught Distance Education at the collegiate level for ENMU.
Lee also was a Gear Up teacher for Valencia High School from 2011-2012. During that time she created curriculums for at risk students to attend college, oversaw a $65,000 budget for Gear Up, facilitated e2020 for students in need of credit recovery, and was a Student Leadership Coordinator.
Prior to working in education and administration, Lee served as the Community Relations Coordinator and assisted with corporate sales for the Albuquerque Isotopes from 2008-2009. In her time with the Isotopes, Lee worked multiple roles. She coordinated player/mascot appearances, hired gameday workers and handlers, coordinated camps and community service projects, presented corporate sponsorships to potential clients, and assisted in cold calls and renewing corporate sponsorships.
Lee also worked as an intern for the Omaha Storm Chasers, formerly the Omaha Royals, and for the College Baseball World Series in 2008. With the Storm Chasers, she handled on field and off field promotions, out of stadium marketing, ticket sales and cold calls. During the College World Series, Lee was the Liaison for Georgia Bulldogs who was National Runner-Up that year. She also assisted the NCAA’s on site office, was a VIP Club Liaison, and worked the Fan Fest area.
Lee earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Marketing from New Mexico State in May of 2006 and just recently received her Masters of Education degree in Education Administration from ENMU this past December. She also earned teaching certification in secondary education (7th-12th grade) from Santa Fe Community College in 2012.
