Eastern New Mexico University Director of Athletics Dr. Paul Weir announced the appointment of Meghan De los Reyes as the next head coach of the Greyhound women’s basketball program.

“Meghan is a talented young coach with tremendous potential for all of us here at Eastern New Mexico University,” said Weir. “Not only will the young women in our basketball program benefit from her appointment, but our institution and community will immediately feel her impact. Her track record of past success and enthusiasm for the present make her a budding coaching star. We are excited to welcome Meghan and her husband Glen to our Greyhound family with open arms.”

De los Reyes comes into a program that has seen great success in the past few years. The Greyhounds have made three appearances in the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament in the last four seasons. In the 2019-20 season, the Hounds averaged 67.7 points per game (PPG), outscoring their opponents by 8.6 PPG.  ENMU dominated the glass averaging 44.4 rebounds per game (RPG) and out contesting their opponents with a +8.9 RPG margin. Those 44.4 RPG were enough for second in the Lone Star Conference behind West Texas A&M (45.26 RPG), and stood 12th in all of Division II. Recently, Eastern recorded its winningest season (22-9) since the 1992-93 season at 23-5, a season in which the Greyhounds won the Lone Star Conference in 1992-93.

“I feel incredibly honored and excited to be the next head women’s basketball coach at Eastern New Mexico University,” said De los Reyes. “I would like to thank Director of Athletics Paul Weir, President Caldwell, and the entire search committee for entrusting me with this remarkable team and opportunity. I’d also like to thank the members of the women’s basketball team for displaying their true passion, loyalty, and commitment to the program during this transition,” said De los Reyes. “I am looking forward to building upon the established foundation and winning tradition on the court, in the classroom, and in the community. I can’t wait to get started and pour everything I have into this program and amazing group of young women!”

De los Reyes becomes the 9th head coach in program history and arrives to ENMU from NCAA Division II California State University-Chico, in Chico, Calif. where she served as an assistant women’s basketball coach. In her 11-year career as an assistant coach, De los Reyes has accumulated a record of 225-58.

In two seasons at Chico, De los Reyes took charge of recruiting, film coordination, and directing the annual team camp and elite camp. She coached five athletes to all-conference honors, including one first team and two second team selections.

Prior to Chico, De los Reyes was an assistant coach for the Southern Oregon University women’s basketball program in Ashland, Ore. from 2015-2018. De los Reyes help coach Southern Oregon to great success, including three consecutive NAIA Division II National Tournament appearances, collecting NAIA National Runner-Up (2016), and two Cascade Colligate Conference (CCC) league championships. Over three seasons, De los Reyes saw three All-Americans, two conference MVPs, one Defensive Player of the year, and 10 all-conference honorees. De los Reyes also took part in the programs best season (33-2), with a total record of 88-12.

Before landing at Southern Oregon, de los Reyes spent time at Hoosac Valley High School in Adams, Mass. In four years as an assistant with the girls varsity basketball team, De los Reyes had an overall record of 78-19, and the her teams were three-time Western Mass Champions and two-time State finalists.

De los Reyes got her start in coaching as a women’s basketball graduate assistant at the University of Alaska-Anchorage. With the Seawolves, De los Reyes oversaw a Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Final Four. During that lone season, de los Reyes coached one All-American, three All-Conference players, and helped the team to the best school record in school history (31-4). De los Reyes was responsible for recruiting student athletes, creating a strength and conditioning program, and worked on individual player development.

As an undergraduate, De los Reyes was a practice player at Boston College, and used her final year of NCAA eligibility to play at Alaska Anchorage. In her lone season with the Seawolves (2006–07), de los Reyes appeared in 29 games, averaging 4.4 points a contest and ranking third on the team with 31 3-pointers. She finished the season as the Seawolves’ Most Improved Player, and ranked third in the GNAC in 3-point field goal percentage (42.5 percent).

De los Reyes earned a bachelor’s degree in biology/pre-medicine at Boston College in 2006. She received her master’s degree in public health from Alaska Anchorage in 2013.
