Mission: The mission of the local DWI grant program is to reduce the incidence of DWI, alcoholism, alcohol abuse and alcohol-related domestic violence (per DFA definition).
Vision: The Roosevelt County DWI Program personnel continually strive to improve our services to the community by collaborating and partnering with schools, other agencies and non-profit organizations to create a safer community.
Local Goals:
- To reduce and prevent incidents of alcohol and drug related DWI
- To reduce and prevent the misuse of prescription opioid/pain medication
- To reduce and prevent incidents of underage drinking and other drug use

Approval of minutes of last meeting – Nov 14, 2022
Chris Valdez moved, Eric seconded to approve the Nov 2022 minutes as presented, motion passed.
Introductions –
LE Recognition – none
Reports – Activities/data/trends:
- LE: Brief verbal reports from: PPD (Lt. Chris Valdez), RCSO (Deputy Eric Muller) and Safe Ride (Rey Coss and Leander Murphy).
- Prevention component: Darla discussed prevention activities in Portales and Elida for the second quarter. Safe Ride staff were planning an activity before Spring Break and they would like help from the Sheriff’s Office and PPD in using their goggles and carts with ENMU students getting behind the wheel under the influence.
- Compliance Monitoring/Tracking: Darla shared a client data report from Heather Murray, CCO.
- Coordination/Planning/Evaluation component: Shannon Morrison, our contracted evaluator shared how she helps with grant writing, reminded everyone to complete the local Collaboration survey and briefly discussed the NMCS happening from March through April in Roosevelt County and across the state. Darla briefly discussed the FY24 Application in process.
