Mary “Molly” Urioste Obituary
The Rosary for Mary Urioste, 87, of Portales, will be recited at 9:00 AM, Fri., Oct 25, 2024 at St. Helen Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:00 AM with Fr. Francisco Carbajal officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Josh Urioste, Christian Urioste, Alex Garcia, Alexander Urioste, Joseph Urioste, Isaiah Lopez, Daniel Lopez, Jr. and Gage Lopez serving as pallbearers. All her other grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers.
Mary Maud Urioste, known to many as “Molly,” was born Feb. 2, 1937 in Clovis to the home of Mary Marquez, and died early on the morning of Oct. 22, 2024 in Amarillo, TX. Mrs. Urioste grew up Clovis. As a young girl she was working in the fields picking cotton and digging potatoes. It was in Clovis, on June 4, 1955 that she was married to Louis Urioste. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Portales to make their home. For 17 years, Molly worked at the Borden Peanut Plant. Later she was a caregiver for Mrs. Dodson in Clovis.
Molly was a member of the Eagles Lodge, the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Helen Catholic Church. For enjoyment, Mrs. Urioste liked to play BINGO and go to the casinos. She also enjoyed bowling and dancing. Garage sales were a regular activity, and she had collections of various items, some of which were quite valuable. Mrs. Urioste particularly valued spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren.
She is survived by four sons, Louis O. Urioste, Jr of Portales, James Urioste and wife, Elizabeth of Dallas, TX, Larry Urioste of Portales and Florencio Urioste and his companion, Laura of Clovis; two daughters, Kathleen Urioste and Veda Urioste both of Portales; a former daughter-in-law, Glorie Urioste of Portales; 23 grandchildren, Nikki, Orlando, Chuck, Fry Jr, Josh, Jonathan, Quincy, Xavier, Isaac, Julie, Cila, Amy, Jeanette, Corina, Christian, Gage, Antoinette, Tia, Tay, Joseph, Alex, Jacques and Josh; 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Gilbert Garcia of Clovis; and five sisters, Delores Sena of Clovis, Patsy Baca of El Paso, TX, Judy Zamora of Santa Rosa, NM, Darlene Vargas of Santa Rosa, NM and Carolina Camposagrado of Clovis. She was preceded in death by her parents, several brothers and sisters, a son, Raymond Urioste who died July 14, 2019, and by her husband, Louis Urioste, who died May 27, 2019.
