Obituary
Mary Lou Brooks, 76 passed away peacefully at her home in Clovis, NM on January 14, 2022. Lou as she was known by her family and friends had many special names. Momma, MaMa, Ma, Grandma and Nana Lou were her favorite. Lou was born December 21,1945 in Grenada, Mississippi to Charles Merle Williams and Melba Louise Dickens Williams. She had one loving sister Ruby. Lou married Thad Andrew Brooks in Greenville Mississippi August 26, 1963 and together they had three children Kelly, Charlie, and Alana. Preceding her in death were her parents, Charles and Melba Williams.
Lou spent her childhood in Greenville and Cleveland Mississippi. Lou lived in many places over the years. She made her way back to Clovis in 1996.
She enjoyed cooking, often people would show up at mealtime knowing she would surely have something delicious, hot and ready. She enjoyed working in her yard and giving advice on plants and flowers. She loved fishing, playing cards, Merle Haggard and the Mississippi Delta.
Lou loved her family, and this included her Mississippi family. She went every summer and spent a month with her special friends Otis and Minta Hill and Eli and Jennifer Herbison. Her love for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends and family were shown daily in all that she did for us. She has impacted many of us in ways that will reflect in generations to come. She was one of a kind and we are so blessed that she was our Momma, MaMa, Ma, Grandma, and Nana Lou.
Lou was passionate about helping others. When her cousin Marianne became sick, she packed up and went to care for her. When her Aunt Gene needed help, she didn’t even have to ask. Lou was there no matter how long she was needed.
Lou loved spending time with her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. She taught many of them to cook and even taught a few of them how to drive.
Lou is survived by her husband Andy Brooks of the home, children Kelly Martin (Scott) of Clovis, NM, Charlie Brooks (Christine) of North Richland Hills, TX, and Alana Irwin (Chris) of Clovis NM, and her sister Ruby Witt. Her grandchildren GeNae Carpenter (Cassidy), Jordan Martin (Dalia), Tyler McCoy, Airen Schaap (Austin), Zac Brooks, Hayden Reeves, Avery Reeves, Cade Irwin (Kelsey), and Hunter Irwin. 10 great grandchildren Lily, Ady, Odin, Moses, Willem, Anja, Henrick, Maddox, Bailey and Asher.
Lou will be missed; she was loved by so many. Although we are saddened to say goodbye, we rejoice that she is no longer suffering and that she has entered her heavenly home. The family would like to thank Jordan and Beverly from Presbyterian Hospice, as well as Mike Reeves, Keith and Anne Baldwin, Pat Knauer and Mike Gray for all the love and care they provided for Lou and our family.
