Martha Magdalene Jordan was born May 17, 1926 in Elida to the home of Mary Eula (Morrow) and James E. Swagerty, and died at her home in Elida on Aug. 2, 2021. Elida was Martha’s home her entire life. She graduated from Elida High School in 1944. On Oct. 5, 1965, she was married to Dan Jordan. She and Dan sort of team drove the school bus. He went on the far route, and then Martha picked it up and drove the rest of the way. Mr. Jordan died in 1977.
After his death, she just kept driving the route until 1991. She continued to live on the ranch and run it by herself until about 2004, when after 39 years, she sold the ranch. When she sold the ranch, she added on to the house in town and moved in with her sister. All the kids on the bus loved Martha, but if you got out of line, you got moved right up front where she could keep a close eye on you. She would often bring treats or let the kids stop at the store and get a snack. Martha enjoyed oil painting, and her home is evidence of that, as there are paintings all around the house that she had done.
She is survived by her only sister, Madie Swagerty of their home. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
