Mark Allen Franken December 6, 1962 ~ June 10, 2023 (age 60)

A celebration of life service for Mark Allen Franken, 60, will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 16th in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales, NM with Dan Greathouse officiating, with a burial being planned at a later date in Tucumcari, NM.

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be sent to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association.

Mark Allen Franken was born on December 6, 1962 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to the home of Joann Turnbeaugh and died on Saturday, June 10, 2023, in Portales, New Mexico. Mark attended Western High School in Las Vegas Nevada. He later moved to Tucumcari, NM where he would meet the family that would forever change his life. After moving to Portales, Mark attended Eastern New Mexico University, where he graduated with a bachelor of science in criminal justice. Mark worked for many years as a parts manager at C&S in Portales as well as Big Valley.

Mark loved watching football, in particular the Dallas Cowboys and the Oklahoma Sooners. He loved fishing and camping and could often be found cracking jokes while doing so.

He is preceded in death by his grandmother Ada Turnbeaugh and his mother Joann Bownds along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins whom he loved dearly.

Mark is survived by his father Jim Bownds and brother Brian Bownds of Janesville, WI; Mary Lopez of Portales, NM; his oldest son Leland Cook of Albuquerque, NM; his daughter Kristin Weems and Chris of Brighton, Colorado, and his youngest son Shawn Franken of Portales, NM; his granddaughters Andrea Weems and Breanna Cook, and his grandsons Markus Weems and Landon Cook.
