Marjorie JoAn Hine was born Mar. 23, 1933 in Billings, MO to the home of Olive (Batson) and Victor Stockard and died peacefully at her home in Clovis early on the morning of Mar. 29, 2017. The Stockard family moved to Portales when she was a girl, and Marjorie graduated from Portales High School in 1951. For a time she worked for the newspaper as a driver for Frances Christoe who was the social reporter. On July 5, 1953, she was married to Frank Hine at her family’s farm. In the late 1960’s they settled in Clovis. During the ensuing years she worked at Woody’s Department Store, and at Patrick’s Diamonds.
Marjorie was a very social person, and never met anyone she did not like. She enjoyed being with people of all sorts, from the higher social circles, to the more common people. Marjorie liked to be anywhere that she could visit with people, so she liked to go to yard and garage sales, parties, dances, dinners, and any other type of gathering. She always enjoyed dancing with her husband, and they were very accomplished on the dance floor. Marjorie enjoyed going fishing and hunting with her husband, Frank, and even killed deer and antelope herself. She liked playing bridge, and talking on the phone.
For many years, Marjorie organized her class reunions, as well as family gatherings and reunions. Her family lovingly referred to her as the “Cruise Director.” Another hobby was photography. She took countless pictures and very meticulously labeled each one with the names of the people, place and date involved, and even marked the negative number so that she could easily find it for copies. Several of her pictures won awards at the county fair, and some even took “Best of Show.” Following Frank’s retirement in 1994, she and her husband traveled extensively. They had been to Europe, Canada, Mexico, Alaska, and most of the lower 48 states.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bart Leon and Terry Hine of Eagle Nest, NM; a daughter and son-in-law, Colleen Darice and Hans Hostetter of Clovis; another daughter-in-law, Peggy (Mrs. Joe) three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Garland (Donna) Stockard of Portales; two sisters, Mary (Bill) Frazier of El Paso, TX, and Wylene Call of Lubbock, TX; and another sister-in-law, Peggy (Mrs. Joe) Stockard of Canyon, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Joe Wayne Stockard, who died in 1997, and by her beloved husband, Frank, who died Sept. 8, 2014 after more than 61 years of marriage.
