Marilyn Elaine (Roff) Fulton October 1, 1948 ~ November 18, 2023 (age 75)

Funeral services for Marilyn Fulton, 75, of Portales, will be held at 10:00 AM, Tues., Nov. 28, 2023 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Don Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Randy Lovato, Brandon Lovato, Ricky Lovato, Jr., marc Lovato, Sarah Harned, Katherine Rice and Amanda Lovato serving as pallbearers.

Marilyn Elaine Fulton was born Oct. 1, 1948 in Clovis, to the home of Mary Martha (Patterson) and Charles Carter Roff, and died Nov. 18, 2023 in Las Cruces, NM after a brief illness.  The family made their home in Canadian, TX and later Friona, TX before moving to Portales in 1957.  The family home was on a farm in the sandhills east of Portales.  At that time the work was still done partly with a team of horses, and partly with a tractor.  Marilyn attended the Portales schools from the third grade on, beginning at Stiner Elementary.  Marilyn was always very protective of her big brother, Jim, and that carried through for the rest of her life.  If she thought someone needed straightening out, she was the lady that could do it.

Once she was out of school, she worked for a time at the lunch counter at Portales Drug.  She also attended beauty school, before marrying Jackie Ray Fulton on Jan. 15, 1971.  Together they ran Fulton Barnyard Fertilizing, and she was the unofficial “CEO.”  In addition, she enjoyed baking and sewing, as well as gardening and canning its produce.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Daniella Fulton of Clovis and Raymond and Jodi Fulton of Portales; a daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Ricky Lovato of Portales; nine grandchildren, Katherine and Ben Rice, Ricky and Jessica Lovato, Jr., Amanda Lovato, Brandon and Shereya Lovato, Randy Lovato, Marc and Kinsey Lovato, Sarah and Caleb Harned, Haley Lovato and Electra; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Roff and Gar Roff both of Salt Lake City, UT; and a sister, Janet Roff and her companion, Ruben Baeza of Portales.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Larry Roff and by Jackie Fulton, her husband of more than 51 years.
