Marilee Brennen, 74, entered into eternal peace and went home to her savior on September 6, 2022 at Roosevelt General Hospital. She was born into the home of William and Mildred (Nolan) McCready on May 1, 1948 in New Haven, Connecticut. She attended St. Francis Parochial School in New Haven, and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy School in Hamden, CT.

At a very young age, Marilee showed her passion for caring for others. She was kind, empathetic, loving and giving of those she loved and knew. She was a lover of all ‘fur-faces” from a young age, if she could, she would rescue them all.

She obtained her Licensed Practical Nursing education from the Hospital of St Raphael in New Haven in 1967. Initially, she worked at one of the first Cardiac Intensive Care Units in New England.  Marilee had been a nurse for more than 44 years and was known to so many for her kindness and generosity. She retired in 2011 from Women’s Medical Center. She had received many awards related to her caring and compassionate nursing care throughout her career. She truly possessed the heart of a servant to others, and was known as being unable to deny any person or creature a helping hand.

In addition to her calling as a nurse, she was known for her skill and joy in decorating for the holidays and in her younger years would enjoy decorating other people’s homes as well.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Suzanne McCready.

Marilee was the beloved mother of her daughter Tracy and her husband Tim Fuqua, of Nebraska. She took extreme pride in her role as Lala, to her only grandchild, Jamie, also of Nebraska, and was always willing to share any picture and share the latest information with anyone who asked about her granddaughter, Jamie.

She made friends everywhere she went and she was loved by the many people whose lives she touched. Most of all, she loved her family and friends. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service has been planned for Friday October 7th at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Portales, NM. Rosary will begin at 9:00 AM, with the memorial service to follow at 10:00 AM.

If preferred, in lieu of flowers, donations to Habitat for Humanity of Roosevelt and Curry Counties or Cindy’s Hope for Precious Paws or other animal rescue group are encouraged.
